Thanks chaps! There's a few more decals to go on but nearly there.

Planning on going Tony but I might be working away so we'll see.

Hi Shaun,

Did you ever get to the bottom of the gearbox/thrust bearing noise?

In a word, no.

When the car is started in neutral for the first time, the gearbox sounds quite normal.

Depress the clutch and bring it back up again and the grumbling noise starts.....I'm assuming it's the release bearing .....

Hi Shaun.....Interesting..

Although mine has now quietened down now, I had a similar noise when I first mated the newly rebuilt engine and gearbox up.

I think mine was the new spigot bush rotating in the crank rather than the gearbox shaft turning inside it. I noticed when I installed it that it was a light press fit in the crank and tighter (not overly so however) fit on the input shaft on the gearbox.
I think that its now had time to wear in that the bush is now staying put in the crank and doing what it should do.

From memory it started to make a noise when the clutch was pressed. Makes sense as it would be when the gearbox input shaft would be static (assuming its in gear) and crank rotating.

All quiet now, so fingers crossed thats all it was..perhaps similar to yours?

Swapped the tyres to the new minilites today and chatted about getting it MoT'd first week of April so things are moving again!

Speaking of moving.....

Will be doing spanner checks over the next few weeks and fitting a 1 litre oil catch tank to the crankcase breather to comply with the MSA competition car rules, sorting the front bumper and towing brkt and then we should be go to go!

Cheers chaps!

Think it would look good next to yours Tony at the NEC later in the year!

Not sure about the National meet as I think this is the weekend before the Revival and we're going down there the weekend before so might not be able to make it. Will check.

In the meantime, started the crank case breather today......
