Replacement coil for Lucas Type 15C6

#1 Post by Essexwriter »

I'm pretty sure I need a replacement coil, and if I don't it certainly won't hurt - and will help me narrow down the possible causes for my troubles starting first thing in the morning and loss of power when the engine heats up.

My Toledo currently has a 6v Type 15C6 coil with ballast resistor incorporated in the wiring harness.

These don't seem easy to get hold of. I believe this type of coil was quite common, so I'm guessing some of you will have replaced it with an alternative.

My question is, what shall I replace it with? Any suggestions very welcome and gratefully received!

Cheers,

Ben

Use a Lucas DLB102 or equiv, or bypass the ballast resistor and use a DLB101 or a Sports Coil DLB105.
Matt.

Our Jeroen swears by the Bosch red ones....

I'd just pinch a denso one off a nissan in a scrappie...

Super - thank you both. As long as the replacement a) works and b) doesn't melt anything, I'm not hugely fussed about performance. Beyond being able to tackle hills, that is...

Cheers,

It certainly worked for me. Starts much better now especially when hot. :D

This is a 6V Lucas coil 15C6 fitted to a 1976 Sprint. I assume the ballast resistor is above the coil in the photo.

Would a straight replacement be the 12V Lucas DLB102 mentioned earlier in this thread?

I'm a bit confused to be honest.

The bit above the coil looks like a suppressor.

The blue thing is a suppressor to prevent interference on the radio. The ballast is usually part of the wiring loom.

I am looking after a Toledo for a friend and the ballast resistor in (my) car is a lump off stone attached near the coil.
