Sprint Lumenition Magnetronic Ignition
Sprint Lumenition Magnetronic Ignition
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if its possible to fit the Magnetronic kit to the Sprint Distributor 44D4 and which kit is it.
I think it's MTK 007 which is for 45D4, is the difference between these two the lower distributor cap arrangement.
Thanks in advance
Jim

Re: Sprint Lumenition Magnetronic Ignition
Hi Jim.. MTK007 is the correct one, I have one in my Sprint..fits lovely and is a good choice. If you have an inline ballast resistor you will need to extend the positive wire to the fusebox to get a constant 12volts. Don't know of the difference between the two dizzys. Two wires, Black to the coil..Red to the fusebox.. sorted.

Thanks for that Reg,
I was convinced that was the one Rimmers are selling and at present these kits are on sale on ebay for any other interested parties.
Also thanks for the advance on fitting the kit.

Lumenition also do a Coil to match the kit i have one fitted to my sprint and it is blue in colour, it feels much smoother few the rev range then the lucas ones. Fitting as per Reg's instructions.

Re: Sprint Lumenition Magnetronic Ignition
just found this thread, im also thinking of fitting the magnetronic, does the plastic ring which fits over the dist shaft have a specific cut away in order for it not to move as my shaft has no cam profiles.
Re: Sprint Lumenition Magnetronic Ignition
A note of caution on this. When you fit the kit, you screw the mounting plate into the dizzy with a single screw. I and others have found that it doesn't quite hold the plate down tightly enough and this leads to a random and annoying misfire / poor running / not running at all. All it needs is a tiny spring washer between the two and all is well.
Re: Sprint Lumenition Magnetronic Ignition
hi there, how does the plastic ring with the magnets fit over the shaft, does it have a plastick tongue to fit in the shaft groove, like a woodruf key.
or does it rely on your dizzy having the points style cams to secure it?.

I bought the magnetronik (007) but my distributer base plate is the wrong one. I think i need the "points" base plate
any 1 have a spare I can purchase

Re: Sprint Lumenition Magnetronic Ignition
Reviving this thread as I wish to know which coil suits the MTK007?
And does it have to be stirred not shaken ?

Re: Sprint Lumenition Magnetronic Ignition
I used this coil but you do NOT need the in-line ballast resisitor that comes with it.

Re: Sprint Lumenition Magnetronic Ignition
I fitted my Magnetronic Ignition yesterday. The instructions say that there must be a gap of around 1.5mm between the module and the plastic cap. However if I push it down, the cap is flush with the module. How can I ensure the 1.5mm gap?
