ooops she's dripping again

#1 Post by DazasDolly »

I filled the tr7 engine with fresh coolant and now it's on the garage floor

It looks like it is dripping from the ledge under the carbs, I've tightened up the jubilee's on the bypass tube but I just cannot see where it's actually leaking from.

Any ideas please

Many thanks

Sadly it sounds as if the water pump may have failed, or if you are lucky its the inlet gasket that has failed as this would leak water out just under the carb manifold up at no 1 cylinder.
track action maniac.

The lunatic is out................heres Jonny!

Water pump almost certainly.

Plenty of stuff on how to do this on here and a wiki thread that may yet have been reactivated.

Therapeutic if frustrating. When you've done this you'll be a slant expert.

Thank you gentlemen, would this be the same without the engine running, I should of mentioned above.

I have a gasket set so will have a good look tomorrow, and I can always nick a water pump from the engine that never got picked up by the ebay purchaser :D that's if 1850/tr7 are the same

Many thanks

Darren I would fill it up with water and have a look. Maybe the o-ring on the inlet manifold? The o-ring thickness is barely enough for the seal to be made.

I think it's sorted, I managed to get a bit more tension on the bypass tube rear hose clip and a slight weep from the back of the thermostat housing, so done up the bolts a bit more and seems to have sealed.

Idle's lovely and stays around the half way mark on the temp gauge, fingers crossed all's good. Will keep an eye on levels

Cheers

If its the pump seal the water comes out of the slot behind the alternator and should only come out when the engine is running.

If the slot is dry - often difficult to tell if other bits are leaking, your pump should be good - for a while.

Cheers Jon

I'm going to keep a close eye on things, I've got a few brake pipes to make and the clutch master to slave pipe as the end is a different size union to the 1500 slave size. See if I can can finally get the prop to fit and then hopefully a test drive is in order really miss driving it....

Cheers
