SU Alloy Spacer Block Studs

#1 Post by ham204 »

I relieved the TDC shop off a pair of very nice alloy spacer blocks ( at a price of course) and was sent the stuff with eight studs.

They are far too long to fit the carbs - hence my question is: anyone knows how long they should be to fit in the spacer block and leave enough meat to fit the carbs on? I'm trying to prevent myself having an uneducated guess and having a go at cutting them as that usually ends up in tears.

I got a set of unf/unc studs, and corresponding nuts.

If I remember correctly they were 1 1/4", but will go through my eBay purchases and check.

Just do a test build of the carbs on the blocks with the nuts and washers, then saw the studs off to leave a couple of threads still showing after the nut. Thats how I did mine.
I think some folks use an extra spacer as a thermal isolator but I don't find them necessary.

I've moved the thread here because the OP was asking for advice.

For records' sake I make out the required length as 32mm which seems to work out fine.

The longer studs are fine with earlier carbs; the castings changed shape on later ones.
