1850 cylinder head . Distortion ?

#1 Post by MIG Wielder »

One question for the engine experts please.
If you have an 1850 cylinder head that has got hot and distorted, so it needs a skim, does that also mean the cam should be removed and the camshaft bearings also should be rebored in-line ?
Thanks Tony.

If it has warped to that extent, I'd say it is scrap; any attempt to rebore the cam line bore potentially means each bearing surface becomes eccentric and the cam will no longer sit tight...

Distorted so much that it needs a skim can be a couple of thou, this would be fine IMO, much more than 10 thou and i'd be looking for the bin!

Thanks for your comments guys. The head is now dismantled and with just the camshaft installed it turns smoothly and with no high spots. Good !
Onwards to completion.
We'll still get the face skimmed though I reckon.
Tony.
