Would someone be able to measure the coach line on there 1850 please (and let me know) obviously the two stripes and the gap.

They must have forgot to put them on 
does raise the question when they would have been fitted when new?would it have been on build or at the dealership. If the latter the customer could have chosen not to have them fitted to your car. I assumed they just all had them.

Back in '79 GTS290N didn't have any (until I fitted some) and my current late '75 car doesn't have them.

I think they were only OE on the post 76 1850s. I would measure mine but the car is 40 miles away ATM! They are not the same as the Sprint ones though, the upper thicker stripe is only half the size of the Sprint one though the lower one is the same size.
As an educated guess, I would say the upper stripe is 1/4" followed by a 1/8" gap and a 1/8" lower stripe.

That sounds about right Steve, closest would be 6mm and 3mm. Being a late car mine will be having some but I didn't realise early cars didn't have them. On from that am I right to think that 1500s never had them fitted from new? Still curious where they would have been fitted when new.

Well i'd finished my apprenticeship by 76 and moved on to (dare I say it?) Volkswagen. But I was still at Triumph in 73 when the Sprint came out, they came with the stripes already added by the factory. I'm not sure about the 1500, certainly seen a few HLs with stripes (and have a 77 1500HL in my yard that is pinstriped similarly - but that is most assuredly NOT an original car, it started life White and is now Vermillion)
Whilst many cars in the 70s WERE pinstriped ex-works, many more were blinged up by dealers to make "limited edition" dealer specials and even more by proud owners. So it's a bit of a grey area (with red stripes)!!!!

I'd like to say thanks for cleaning that up Steve, but I guess we'll never know for sure. Your right, I remember helping fit coach lines to my Dads 1500HL and fitting a spoiler (robbed from the 1850 he got rid of), neither were original fit as far as I'm aware.

Yep, 1850: post '76 only, part numbers zkc3201 (black) zkc3020 (gold) for the stripe on a roll and ykc2812/3 (black) and ykc2810/1 (gold) for the front wings. Silver not an option for 1850. (gold not an option for Sprint)
1500 had none, except SE (wkc 4969/70, 4971/2 4973/4, 4975/6)

Well if you want to open THAT can of worms, AFAIK All Sprints had a spoiler, the 1850 got it in the 76 range rationalisation and the last few hundred 1500HL "run out" models got it.
Again this was an easy update in period since even my 73 Toledo had the mounting holes for the spoiler in the front valance, so it was a ten minute job to fit one and they probably only cost a fiver new in those days!

Thanks Mike, that's a useful picture, I've struggled to find close up pictures.
Given the slight curve on the front and rear wing, is it best to fit each panel coach line in turn? Most say do it all in one go and snip between wings and doors.

That's very interesting, as my very original 1850 shell has the fatter stripe to the top. also the front wing stripes taper together to a point at the front. The factory part numbers Alun gave refer to an individual and handed stripe for the front wings, this is why! Can't take any photos of it ATM as the body is 40 miles away at the panel shop being straightened.

As far as fitting the stripe goes, start at the back and work forward. Leave about 1/2" between the chrome moulding and the beginning of the stripe, but match the angle. If, as I suspect, you will only have a roll and not the specific front wing stripes, this will let you make the taper by hand. Note that the lower stripe is more or less flat all the way to the tip and the upper stripe tapers down to meet it. Once it's all on, slice the centre of each door gap with a razor blade and tuck the excess into the shuts, if you cut flush with the door/wing edge, the wretched stuff will shrink in time and leave a gap!

Well that's a shocker 
are 1850 front wing coach lines really handed?I wasn't aware of that, and if that is the case what's the chance of getting some from anywhere?. I'm sure I've got a sales brochure that shows no tapering of the coach line, I'll have to have another look tomorrow.
