Engine stand Sprint engine mounting bracket

#1 Post by dursley92 »

I saw this picture of an engine stand bracket on a Dutch engine builders website and wondered if anyone on here has made one similar or knows where I could get one?

That's a pic of one of Han's blocks (he doesn't get on here very often but is one of the Sprint gurus). I know Jeroen made one similar so he may be able to help.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

here is a photo of my version of mounting a Dolomite and Sprint block on its side as per Han's and Jeroen's method of attaching a block to an engine stand. It certainly works for me.

You have to make one yourself. Not that difficult. I made it from scrap iron what was laying around.

A limited opportunity for an enthusiastic fabricator...I'd buy one!

Mine is pretty much like Roberts above. Still scares me hanging the heaviest 4 cylinder block Ive ever lifted- on 4 5/16 bolts  . Works a treat though and have built up complete with clutch.

Well I'm hoping to start work on my engine in the next few weeks and this would be very helpful as it's a bit of a pain mounting on the flywheel end. We do have a fabricator here at work, if I had a drawing I might be able to ask the boss if he can make some up. I cannot guarantee but if I don't ask. I would ask to have a go myself but I'm not really experienced at this sort of thing, though it doesn't look especially difficult to make.

Jeroen, I would like to see the dimensions and pictures please. I could easily make my own. Thanks. When I rebuilt a Lotus-Ford block I hung it on the side and it was so much better than hanging it on the bellhousing plate.

Not all pics as sharp but functional. In some pics it does seem the square tube of the adapter does stick inside the round tube of the stand and it does about 4cm. I used 40x40 and only had to grind of a bit of the angles to fit in the tube for extra support. The main 40x40 tube had a triangle cut out, then bend and welded. The piece what was cut out i did weld in the corner again. Make sure the 4 round tubes where the bolts are through are totally flat and flush with the engineblock. You have to bolt the four tubes first to the (an) engine and then weld the 40x40 tube inside. Then you are sure it does fit onto the engine.

Thanks, that's good. I can make some drawings from your photos. I assume the holes used for mounting on my 1850 block are the same as on a Sprint block. How strange to see a tape measure without inches on it! :D
