Why is a drawing required?

Jeroen's advice to bolt the tubes to a block before welding the 40 x 40 to them surely does away with the need for a drawing?

I'll have a word with Mr Wilkes... ;-)

Required because if I have a drawing it's easier to ask the boss and ultimately easier for a fabricator to make. He only makes things from drawings you see like car chassis's and other things. This ensures we have a spec and small scale production is easier.

On mine I made a 5mm steel plate fit the block with 4 holes then welded box section to it.

Can mounting the block in this way cause adverse stress on the casting at all?

It's quite worrying when you hang an engine on a stand wherever it's supported. I kept well away from some V12 Jaguar engines I saw at a show once, supported only by a few bolts and a lot of good luck, they were fully dressed engines too not just a block!

Most of the stress should go through the bolts rather than the block so the use of good quality bolts is critical.

I'm currently building my engine, and have bolted it at the rear of the block using five studs, seems very solid to me, but I'll probably support it at the front with a block of wood as it gets heavier.
