Wheel Refurbishers

#1 Post by RSi »

Can anyone recommend good wheel refurbishers.

I'm in Scotland but as they will need to be sent by courier as there's none near me, any recommendations welcome.

I'm wanting them diamond cut.

Built 26/6/1980, 3 previous owners (2 within the same family).

I took 2 sets of wheels for diamond cutting and both were rejected so I'm going to try Spit and Polish in Kent who come highly recommended.

In a previous thread (last year?) Jod Clark gave a recommendation for these people,
who have a branch in Inverness....

I haven't had cause to use them myself but speaking to others locally who have, they do a job
but are "expensive".

If your wheels are sound, is there nobody local who can bead blast them for you?

I used them after badly scraping an alloy on an almost brand new modern, came back looking as new and has been good for a year or so now. Cost £90.

The franchise in Burton are the ones that wouldn't do my wheels. That's not to say that another branch wouldn't.

There is a place in Telford that repaired and trued a badly bent and cracked 22" Range Rover wheel for one of my customers that I would have classed as totally beyond saving. It wasn't cheap, but a lot less than a new wheel! I'll dig out their details if you are interested Mark!

Thanks Ian, be interesting to find out how good they are. I don't think my wheels have been cleaned in 37 years.

Apparently they had too much wobble so they couldn't cut them on the CNC machine. I tried a NOS set and another used set, both were rejected. They did offer to polish them but they did a pretty crappy job on one as a tryout so I just took them all back. I see no reason why they couldn't have got a good finish on them as Lepsons and Spit and Polish seem to have no problem. I chose them primarily because they were local but in reality I've wasted quite a long time. Probbaly wait till after Xmas now.

I have to send mine by courier as no one near me does them, so if I get that kind of reception it's gonna cost me a fortune in courier costs 🙈

When I contacted Spit and Polish they quoted me all in including courier both ways. I can't remember what they quoted though as I've mislaid the email but it seemed reasonable.

Do you know anyone that's used them - it would be good to find out who had some done - do they do the black painted insert too I wonder

Have you heard of Lepsons in Gillingham Kent, apparently they have branches all over the country - I've seen a set they've done and they look encredibl, I'll try and find a pic.
