As well as the slightly weedy standard earthing cable on my 1850HL, I have fitted a braided earth from one of the bell housing bolts directly to the body. I'd rather not have starter current flowing up the choke cable!

Mark, it was with much trepidation that I mentioned Halfords. They're not all bad. I had the battery on the Citoren tested for free last year.

Anyway, getting back on topic. I've measured the lengths of the wires and the one going to the engine earth is about 410mm (about 17" in old money) and the one going to the inner wing is about 180mm (about 7"). I'm sure I should be able to find something that will fit.

Sure enough, I managed to buy everything I need to make up my own negative battery cable.
Image
Halfords 18" negative battery cable.
Halfords 9" negative battery cable.
Negative battery terminal from a local motor factor.

Total cost was £14.48 so it worked out cheaper than Rimmer Bros.

I reckon that you could make up a similar cable for the OHV cars.
