split exhaust rubbers

Two of the oval rubbers with two semi-circular slots through them on the Sprint have split. That may, in part because whoever fitted them seems to have cut the lower two slots into D shaped holes. The problem is, I can get neither off without cutting them off - the brackets on the car are bending. So, I'm worried I'm not going to get the new ones on very easy, and may even snap the brackets.

But, other than they are split through, there's little wrong with the ones that are on.

So what's to stop me putting a large (35-50mm) jubilee clip around each one?

I suspect putting a jubilee clip will restrict movement and maybe cause vibration

My new ones from LD sold as being more pliable was horseshit, they were just as rubbish and all split within a year. Now to be fair, I also had to get a chisel to them so that they would fit the D shape of the RB SS exhaust. I've now replaced them all with a bulk order of Sealey EX04 exhaust rubbers bought from the Green Spark Plug Co. for a the pittance of a quid a pair. Easy to put on as they are just round, I've finished them off with a wrap around the middle. The exhaust height is the same as was, there is a little more movement in it but that's probably a good thing over the old rigid rubber.

I'm hopeful that these last for years like normal car exhaust rubbers do.

You obviously have not been reading my A to Z on Dolomites in Dolly Mixture. In part 3 I suggested -

"Exhaust
Fit wide tie wraps around the outside of rubber mounts to extend their life - I do not remember who suggested this to me but it is certainly a good tip to extend the life of the rubber exhaust mounts. The tie wrap stops the rubber mount from being put under excessive strain."

I did not cover getting the mounts on and off but if you spray them and the hanger with something like WD40 and then use two large screwdrivers you should be able to do it.

I did read it, either way the rubbers are still rubbish and don't work with a Rimmers SS exhaust imho.

I also used very wide cable ties on my standard exhaust rubbers, they've lasted for years.

If you get bored on evening, take a look through "exhaust rubber" on ebay. You will find genuine OEM rubbers for Ford/merc etc etc which are all similar enough to work, and being OEM (don't be tempted by anything claiming to exceed oem, or be equivalent) and they will last years without the need for any extra support.
I bought a pair of ford ones for a fiver, had to make them a tad narrower but that is not a hardship.

Chris Witor's PU ones are no doubt great, if like any other of his products (see the other day he is doing an ali replacement fuel tank) and I would have used them if it wasn't for the fact that the RB exhaust hanger profile is wrong.

Edit: Hells bells those Powerflex ones are like £9 each!

I've used 2nd hand OEM Vauxhall ones (similar to EXH019 on the powerflex listing) cut in half, on the Carledo's RB stainless system. Fitted them when I fitted the system in 2013 and not had to change one yet!

Well,I have a club exhaust,and suprise, suprise,the hangers are exactly the same as you describe on the robber bros one.
Most likely the exhausts are probably made by the same manufacturer.To be fair,not a huge problem.
I have used the new rubbers from Robsport,and they are indeed softer,and more pliable than the ones I bought previously from Rimmer-and cheaper to boot.
Be carefull using harder rubbers,you maybe transfering stress and extra noise into the main shell.

This is quite interesting as I was replacing some of my exhaust rubbers at the weekend. Now in one of my "bits boxes" I had a bag of Dolomite exhaust mounts I remembered getting at one of the Restoration Shows as a "just in case". They were very similar in size to the originals but are much harder and if you hold them up to the light you cannot see through the U-shaped cut-outs where the brackets fit through. I tried fitting one after soaking it in boiling water and adding some red-rubber brake grease. It was hard work getting it over the brackets and I ended up splitting it before it popped into place. A 2nd one was more successful, but still hard work even with Richards suggestion of 2 screwdrivers.
Incidentally 2 of my old exhaust rubbers were a strange aftermarket item, that was similar to the originals but only 1/2 the width. The rubber on these had perished badly.

My rubbers were replaced in Nov 2017, and need replacing again now - not sure who supplied them though as I didn't fit them.
