Hello,
My top ball joints both have circlips which are just over an inch in diameter stopping stuff getting in the top of that part of the dust cover. However, there appears to be no such clip or elastic band surrounding the lower part of the top ball joint cover.
My bottom ball joints have no clips or elastic bands at all.
Is this normal ? Could I use cable ties to help seal the covers ?
Thanks, Richard

there should be rings or early bands, stop crud getting in and help keep the grease in

Just put a loop of gardening wire around the boot and twist the two ends together.
Re: Ball joint dust cover rings / elastic bands
Good old fashioned cable ties will do

I have used cable ties and they have worked well.

I had the same issue recently, being an Engineer I took the most complicated route
I bought myself some lock wire pliers and wire and have been happily lock wiring the boots. It takes a little practice to ensure you don't make it too tight and cut into the rubber. I also got in lots of trouble at home as I got a little carried away and used the handles on the kitchen cupboards to practice on. At least it slowed me down getting to the biscuits!
