Similarity between 1850 and Triumph Stag cylinder heads.

#1 Post by MIG Wielder »

Are the Stag cylinder heads basically the same as the 1850 ?
The valve gear looks identical; the inlet manifolding looks a bit different as does the exhaust manifolding. But I understand the basic casting is the same; or is that info wrong ?

Thanks very much,
Tony.

The casting numbers are different, and theres a bigger gap where the timing chain goes on the Stag head, also think the water transfer housings at the back of the head are different

Ah ... Thanks Dave. I was reading that the SOC is thinking of remaking Stag cylinder heads and I was wondering how much compatibility there was.
Still a few 1850 heads around I reckon.

It would be interesting to know if the 1850 head would fit a Tr7 and vice verser

Physically yes. The difference is the combustion chamber size. A tr7 head on an 1850 gives a very low compression engine and vice versa gives an high compression engine. I'm not sure a tr7 head will fit an 1850 headgasket/bore wise.
