Boot light bulb
I looked at the bulb guide and at Rimmers, and both say it's GLB233 for the 73 Sprint. But I bought one of those (actually 2) and the pins are too big. The main part of the hole is only about 9.4mm diameter, with some bumps that bring it down to 8.9mm or so. The body of the bulb is 8.8mm, so should fit. But the pins on the bulb are over 10mm tip to tip and just wouldn't fit down the hole.
They do now. But only through a level of brute force and massive ignorance with some pipe grips.
Anybody had and solved this problem with less brutality than squishing the pins in?
Graham

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

Re: Boot light bulb
Shows what I know! I have to fit one on the Dolomega (it's MIA) but i'd always thought it was a threaded 987!
Must take the (working) one out of the Carledo and check!

Here it is working. Now how do I make sure it goes out when I close the lid?

Re: Boot light bulb
Looking at the size of ediscrew M10, 9.3mm diameter, it looks like that's the one, and getting the GLB233 to fit felt like a total bodge because it was.
I hope it comes out now!

Re: Boot light bulb
Just checked the Carledo's boot light bulb and it is indeed an Ediscrew 987!
It's not been out since I bought the car in 08, but came out and went back in easy peasy.

Re: Boot light bulb
Are these single LED 233's too directional to go in the front sidelights?
Wanted an LED for the boot cos I leave it open all day sometimes. But I'm not sure I want LED sides.

Re: Boot light bulb
TBH i'm not a fan of LEDs on required legal lights - because they aint legal! I KNOW the pros and cons, but till they ARE legal (IF and when) i'll stick to tungsten and tungsten/Halogen for heads.
I have no such objection to using LEDs for boot, underbonnet, interior, instrument panel illumination etc.
I have an LED high level brake light (not a legal requirement) and I got 6 of these LED strips for £8 off ebay to light up the boot and underbonnet.

2 ways to test the switch!
1) climb in the boot and close it (remember to take a torch with you to find the release)
2) treat it as an earth leakage test, put an ammeter across between the removed battery earth terminal and battery -ve, read with boot open and again closed, if the second reading is lower, it's working!

Put phone on video record. Put in boot. Shut and open lid. Review video.

Yep that’s what it did for both boot and my new glovebox lamp.GrahamFountain wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 10:04 pm Put phone on video record. Put in boot. Shut and open lid. Review video.

However I did find that the boot lamp holder sits in the panel against an earth so that makes the switch bypassed and permanently on. So removed the lamp until I find a way of insulating it.

Re: Boot light bulb
It's designed to fit there and there should be no contact between the earth side of the bulbholder (which has a wire to the switch) and the clip that holds it in the body. But on the surface it looks like an instrument bulbholder. I'm wondering if someone in YOUR vehicle's past has subbed in the wrong bulbholder?oily66 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 10:53 pmYep that’s what it did for both boot and my new glovebox lamp.GrahamFountain wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 10:04 pm Put phone on video record. I'm just doing a Sprint now where someone (during stripping for a respray) has failed to get the bullet out of the boot switch connection, so cut the wire instead, ANIMAL!
