In the latest Dolly Mixture you recount the progress on your magenta Sprint. I was intrigued to see that you painted it with a brush and I wondered if you could tell me what paint you used, and how you dealt with brush marks etc. Thanks in anticipation of you seeing this,
Mike

Why not simply paint you car with a spray gun? You can get decent results with a brush but it will require far more sanding it flat it. Plus you would still have to mask it, unless you were very careful with the brush. It really isn't a shortcut method for painting a car, at least if you want a decent finish.
Using a spray gun will be much quicker.

I think Rob might have just painted the underside by brush Mike, i might be wrong...... There looks like spray dust inside the car.Bumpa wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 11:03 am In the latest Dolly Mixture you recount the progress on your magenta Sprint. I have seen cars brush painted in celly but it is very time consuming as it involves a lot of flatting and polishing. I have also seen two amazing resprays done with rattle cans, one of which was done outside.

If your thinking of hand painting a car, really you should use coach paint, its a lot thicker, but there is more prep work and the wet and drying after its painted, you can get good results
spray cans give good results as well,
I have painted cars before by brush, also tiried a roller, there good enough when you 17-18 but not the best

I'm not thinking of painting my car myself, it just intrigued me when the article in the magazine said he had brush painted the car. I have some experience of that because I brush painted my Lotus Elan Sprint. As it was a fibreglass body, I used International Perfection yacht paint. There was a lot of flatting to be done but it turned out well as you can see. Hours and hours of work though. You wouldn't use that paint on a steel car - or would you? Trouble would be there is a very limited selection of colours. Fortunately the red and white were perfect for the Lotus.
