Sprint throttle cable to suit webers.

#1 Post by B8WLY »

Hi All.

My throttle cable went on my Sprint yesterday.

I measured the existing cable and it is 160cm.

I asked Rimmers what a typical Sprint cable measured and it was 95cm. Obviously a standard Sprint throttle cable would be to short. I then phoned Robsport who also pointed out the inadequate length of a standard Sprint throttle cable.

Robsport then suggested a TR7 cable which is the same length and has a similar bulkhead fitment. I can take the fitting the cable comes with to fix to the Weber linkage and make that work.

Has anyone got any advise if the TR7 cable has been used before, or does anyone have a similar fix ?

Thanks.

Richard.

When Will took the car on it was running twin SU carburettors, so he must have changed the cable and should therefore be able to advise where to source a replacement.

The cable can’t have done many miles, so investigation as to where and why it broke may be precautionary/advisable.

I have to say I’m surprised an OE cable is 95 cm; my perception is they are much shorter!

When i made my throttle cable for my EFI setup, i used a bicycle brake/gear cable, keep your existing outer case, just use the inner cable

Managed to get hold of Will. It was an eBay cable he cut to suit. The TR7 one is the same length but has a decent bulkhead grommet.

If needed a bit of cutting may be required but it should not be to much of a job.

In terms of the standard Sprint cable it was either 75cm which may of been the RHD version and 95cm being for a LHD. Either being substantially shorter than what’s on the car.

Dear All.

The Robsport cable arrived.

After extracting the offending cable it was clear to see what the issue was and that I was lucky it did not go completely when out on a run.

I cut the furniture off the end of the TR7 cable which was the same length as the existing cable, fitted it to the Webers and throttle pedal and had no issues at all.

Good work around.

Richard.
