Well my inbox rather quickly filled with texts tonight ! I thought it was brilliant tonight..

Sorry to say I relate to the handbreake test - mine would do exactly the same although I doubt I'd be able to get out of the car in time ! Something else for me to fix..

Cheap tactics tonight. A really stupid, pointless exercise. The cars were so obviously doctored.

The Princess acrually looked a half decent example as well. Shame to see the Sprint survive more than 30 years to end like that.

Surely a 1300 would have been more fitting for tonights farce.

Right.

Its agreed, it was set up. Obvious. The Princess had to win because the other two were both hot favourites. If everything had worked well on all three cars then it would not have been entertaining, nor funny (yes I did laugh) and Chris Goffey may as well have been driving them all in that beige suit he used to wear.

I wonder how far the DBS Aston would get if you filled that with water?

I don't think the car was that bad either, it had just been set up to fail.

Don't forget Jeremy's exuberance when Hammond pulled up..."ITS A DOLLY SPRINT!"

If Tin' gets a response then we have no discussion about what happens at the next restoration show...do we?

"I've just wiped my head on a thirty year old seat that some brummie has been sitting on" :rofl2: Shame it was that nice rare grey interior.

As for Jennifer Saunders...she is in my peer group, so watch what you say about advancing years Matey!

Anyway, the glovebox lid was down when they were at the services, the speaker grille bounces out on its own anyway, the radio was obviously lose and those wing mirror fixings always were crap

Nicely put together!

As was the video

...but the likes of her age http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLeFBEVO ... re=related (Adam excepted) will likely still want an SRi rather than a Sprint after tonight's showing

Top Gear

I disagree. After that, young people will know what it is and die laughing. No one in their right mind would want one, thinking parts are liable to fall off every time they go over a bump.

Didn't Top Gear just win an award as well, for best factual programme?

Heres a tip...if you go out in a sprint anytime soon makes sure you find a mate with an SD1.....no one will be thinking about your door mirrors coming off when he is losing whole doors!

Oh and don't park near fire trucks just in case anyone has any bright ideas.....:(

I don't believe youngsters will think anything of the sort to be honest.

Anyone could see that the Sprint wasn't the best example in the world, it looked pretty sick to me.

The timed runs around the test track more than confirmed this, it was hopeless in keeping up with a Datsun 120!

And I believe Clarkson did say that the Sprint was the hot hatch of it's day, which may have surprised the youngsters.

Hammond even said the Sprint had a 0-60 time of 8.7 seconds, I didn't hear either of them say a bad word about the Dolly.

The section where parts were falling off was to be expected really, it was Top Gear after all.

At least they admitted that they were testing the cars at 30 mph instead of the modern car limit of 20 mph, I couldn't stop laughing.

I wouldn't take it too seriously, I very much doubt anyone else has.

But as far as we know, the car was in good order, having had a lot of money spent on it by a Club member not too long ago.
We mustn't get too hung up on this, I'm sure most people can see that the whole thing was staged. The BBC have been contacted with regard to the fate of the car, by the way.

i emailed them too asking what was going to happen to the car.

if what they said was true, i.e. they paid for the cars themselves, they may keep them, maybe we should encourage hamster to join the club?!

i bet JC would just scrap the SD1, and May would probably keep the princess! that princess did look pretty good actually, seat covers looked a bit baggy but generally solid as you like!

I know we should not generalise but...

Why are all motoring journalists such terrible drivers?

I stay about two miles from a castle that various manufacturers (Alfa Romeo, Land Rover, Mazda, Bentley etc) use to launch new models and we have come to dread the launches because of the appalling driving that the journalists subject us to.

I have to say I've never seen a Sprint that low! I guess it wins the prize for the most suspension travel here:?

How much would the water weigh :?:

Thankfully my collegues were rather tolerant today....

Cheers,
