Rover t16 in a dolly

#1 Post by KWM338R »

Couldn't find any info in the archive. Has this conversion ever been done? Will the Sprint gearbox mate upto it relatively easily and handle the power, about 200hp aren't they? Unfortunately I live 3000+ miles from the nearest t16 so it's all daydreaming right now. was reminising about me mums old rover vitesse, was a lot of fun in my younger days!

Cheers

Someone's fitted a K series to an L-series (can't remember, may be an LT77? One out of a Sherpa, IIRC) box, in a two door Toledo - over on the Club Triumph website.

I'm not sure about mating the original 4 Spd/OD box to it but anything's possible with enough time/money

Not sure wether you'd have enough space for the turbo/manifold :)

Thanks Lewis, just popped over there and had a look, his other "projects" look rather nice too!

looks as if it's just been droped in for a quick look as it still has the engine mount atached to the front and as it's derived from the 'o' series a 77 box would be the option for it as it was fitted to the sd1 2000l as well

Seem to recall I saw a Marina/Ital with a L series 2.0 installed. Was at Bromley in about 2003 or 2004. Got a feeling the SD1 Sherpa TR7 box was used.

were fitted with this setup out of the box weren't they? Non turbo though.

Thats the T series with a 5 speeder behind it...
It was also used in the Discovery MPI on an LT77 or R380 box so its doable. ANd of cousre the good old sherpa is O series on LT77 which should mean a T16 will fit.

prototype george afaik to try and keep it in production a bit longer in the dark days just before the abingdon closure. Never made it out to the public but judging by marinas and princesses ambassadors and montegos I drove the O series is nothing special. Okay in a sherpa...

Had an O Series 1.7 Ital Estate once, went like a rocket (for an Ital anyway) we never figured out why it ran so smoth and revved so willingly.

Mate of mine said you'll be alright until 80k miles, sure enough he was right, about 82k at 'a fair lick - no more pedal travel' on the M42, "BANG" #-o dropped the head off a valve, I just kept my foot to the floor, it rattled for a few tenths of a mile then settled down into a misifire, nearly made it home but I had to stop at a roundabout.

Pulled the head off, the valve head was wedged into the piston and had cracked the Piston and mullered the head. "2nd hand head, new piston and rod, put it back together, sweet as a nut :D

T16 in a 25? that's pretty funny. If the engine is in good nick it will be a beast to drive with horrific torque steer and no traction control...
