update - now collecting saturday.

already over the moon with the quality of the job, im sure the finishing touches are gona set her off a treat, and even though mr crazy eyes paint man has set us back a week, i think we can let him off.

i think theres still a few more weeks left of 'resurrection' yet, but apart form the transplant and seat mods the rest is pretty straight forward. the dash may generate the odd headache but we have the technology

next batch of pics tomorrow hopefully 8)

further update - went to check her out tonight, shes done! 8)

black bits look mean, lovin it. bit of fettling/touching in required from masking which isnt great but no big thing, easily fixed.

front n rear screens are in, but lots of fiddly crap to do tomorrow to make her driveable again, i.e. door catches, rubbers, window seals etc, but we have the technology...

good evening folks...

well, an eventful day.

1stly thanks to mr speedy for nipping me down to 'the unit' to collect some bits left there. the pimp-mobile has grown on me, liking it.

ok, so gloria... oh gloria, you hurt my thumb and im not happy. all the fiddly crap jobs to do, very frustrating, fiddly and crap.

doors are not my friends. i dont like doors. doors in general seem to be my kryptonite. os rear door - stuck closed, not by paint, just a crap lock. eventually opened. and closed again accidentally

took me about an hour to refit drivers door handle  partly due to hurty thumb which really didnt help at all

...but headlights in, tail lights in, number plates on, wipers on. have 3 more door handles to fit, not looking forward to these at all. one door handle has gone AWOL  must still be at the unit. probably with the missing U shaped lock barrel retainer thingie, and the little screws that hold in the number plate lights are also AWOL

fitting indicators on front, trying to push a plastic plug into the panel (the square rawl plug type thing) my thumb gave up pretty catastrophically with a kind of crunching noise as it bent the wrong way. clearly my left arm is stronger than i thought my thumb could handle, so i swore a lot and got a hammer and proceeded to finish the job the sensible way.

gloria has also developed 'weird clutch syndrome', pedal flat on the floor, pumped, swore at, pumped more, wont completely disengage box so backwards-forwards-backwards-fowards manouvres now result in crunch, stall, restart, crunch, move a bit, crunch, stall, GRRRRR, bit more swearing. oh well. soon be solved, but gona be interesting find out what the cause of the problem is. the pedal always used to sort of grind a bit near the floor, but now the grinding has gone, possibly because whatever was grinding is now just past the point where the pedal hits the floor. im wondering if the hose is dying, piston in slave is corroded or something else.

never mind. i took one pic today so im not putting it up, will save until tomorrow. she does look pretty mean with black back end and black plates. with all the trim on and the spots on the front (eventually) shes gona look proper mean. consider this your mean toledo warning. you have been warned.

been beavering away in little stints after work. progress is very slow as im working in a council sized garage in fading light - not great for fiddly little jobs of course, but cant do much about that. got the lights working in a fashion (need to redo some wiring at some point), front grilles on, one door rubber sort of half on.

what a pain in the arse. old cars are great - they come apart really easily, but putting back together carefully and properly takes AGES and can easily drive you insane. good job theres cake at my mums.

sorry for the lack of pics, priority is getting the thing sorted. pics will follow shortly 8)

I feel your pain Kev. I was changing my alternator belt a couple of years back and when I pushed down on the alternator I saw the second bone in my thumb slip past the first one as it dislocated. Ouch.

Indicator screw plastic inserts are a bit of a bugger to get in.

Your clutch problem could be down to a broken spring in the master cylinder.

I'll see if I've got any lock retainers.

the clutch problem was actually down to EFDS. so i put some fluid in, pumped it slow then gave it a right good seeing to, and i now have an 'adequate' pedal again. no bleeding reqd. however it'd certainly be more effective if it was bled!

as long as i can get her out of mums garage and up the drive, she should make it to jodsport on saturday, weather permitting...

sorry folks, engine project postponed til next weekend, so just dabbled with refitting more bits.

now we have one door rubber on, 2 handles (had to swap a lock too), trim round rear window, the venty things above rear window. number plate lights cleaned up, in and functioning beautifully. front indicator/sidelights refitted 'correctly', tinted, wired and functioning nicely. also made new little lens separator thingies out of little bits of card covered in foil as the originals were missing.

thats all i have to report for now, apart from shes looking nice and taking shape slowly 8)

Come on Kev, let's see the beast!? Are the wheels on yet?! Did you black the door frames? :D

Re: project 'gloria', THE RESURRECTION

yes m8, door frames black (but need touching in a bit). also the tail end is blacked, similar to a dolly, for a bit of unique-ness. she has wheels on, but not the alg1k ones yet, they're still at jodsport. i need to paint the 'spokes' black i think, that will make all the difference.

"mean" is a good description, tinted tail lights and front indicator/sidelights, black n silver plates. grilles also been repainted black. still a good way to go with the 'non existent' interior once the engine/box sorted, i think the transplant may be on for this weekend!! 8)

i think if i get a chance tonight im gona clear out the inside of the car which is currently being used to store the old rusty door, various bits of trim etc etc, and polish up the trim. see how the clock treats me...

also gona get her booked for a zorst v soon, thats gona just finish the job off nicely!!
