Martin,
I have the bit above the rear windscreen that Bruce Jones gave me a few years ago to get rid of. It's yours if you want it.

Re: Project PFJ (French Blue Sprint)
Well Mart, do I book you a place on the club stand at the NEC next year ?

Re: Project PFJ (French Blue Sprint)
Excellent Mart, I did notice the 'racing white' door mirror, was surprised to see you waited until you got home, that was a prime candidate for accidently ripping off on the garage door frame..............
The Sticking NSR brake must have been a cry for removal of the steely rim
Best wishes for a succesful project, has just got to be a Folding Fabric Roof to replace the solar panel

Re: Project PFJ (French Blue Sprint)
Managed to drag myself to the garage tonight for a couple of hours of R&R.
Mainly just removing bits from the engine bay/engine in readiness for whipping the engine out on Saturday. Took off the carbies & had a hunt for the engine number, doesn't seem to be the original engine. Took the cam/rocker cover off to reveal 4 nearly new spark plug tubes c/w BL labels, no.1 was still full of oil though.
As I was getting the carbs off, the engine was rocking & I think it was knocking against the steering rack. I looked at the mountings & noticed there was no notch on top of the bracket, thinking they must have been put on the wrong way round, I felt underneath. But no notch there either, nor on the other side.
The mountings definitely need replacing though.
Had to laugh, when we picked it up on Sunday I looked at the fuse box & there, in the spare fuse holder, was a blown fuse with cigarette paper wrapped round it...just in case.
Yes Carl, book me in.

Re: Project PFJ (French Blue Sprint)
Yes, he rang me later on in the evening last Sunday.
Me & Mary had a good, solid day at it today. (and we managed to get stuff done on the car as well!
)
First I put the Dollies on, makes it soooo much easier for maneuvering.

Engine out.

Then we gradually started to strip the rest of the car.

I couldn't resist trying out the new paint stripper we bought off Jon the sprayer.

Re: Project PFJ (French Blue Sprint)
Possibly Mike, it looks like it has a new clutch so maybe they just cleaned the bellhousing.
Today I stripped all the doors & took out the petrol tank. Mary started to strip the paint off (after she'd made some mince pies). Looks like it has had a complete respray before but without removing everything ie. paint on the door catches & rubbers, on the bonnet rubber etc. even the original stripes were left on as we discovered whilst stripping the paint off.

Re: Project PFJ (French Blue Sprint)
Are you sure about using stripper Mart? I thought the problem with the stuff is its damned difficult to totally remove from the metal and the residue that sits on the metal starts to manifest itself from underneath new paint...?
Re: Project PFJ (French Blue Sprint)
Well, Mart would know, he's done several off them, IIRC he did JYD asI seem to recall it 'sans coat' in some photo's. A suitable panel wipe and degreaser should clean the metal well.
Quite some progress, awesome, are you trying to finish it by Christmas Mart

Nobody likes a show off Mart!!
Once again, the speed you go at is amazing! Truely is a case of the more you do it, the faster you get!

Re: Project PFJ (French Blue Sprint)
Well I'm no expert Alun, but that seems to be the way the "professionals" do it. This is only the 2nd Sprint I've used paint stripper on (BFR being the other) SFB was already stripped & JYD I used a sanding pad on the end of a drill...what a mess it made!
I must admit Malc, progress was very good this weekend. Maybe it's because I've stripped a few Sprints before & I'm getting to know the best/quickest way to do it.
