Waterpump stuck solid
Waterpump stuck solid
Hi everyone I'm trying to remove a waterpump from my Stag but it is stuck solid
It does have the same pump than your slant fours
Has anyone ever had this problem?
I have posted this on the stag forum but no replies yet
I have made up a slide hammer with bits n bobs but it's not shifting
https://youtu.be/WJD0svpO6_A
I worried I might damage the jackshaft with to much hammering
Getting desperate now lol
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Gaz

Re: Waterpump stuck solid
Get a bigger weight on the slide hammer, mine looks to be about 3 times heavier than that

Re: Waterpump stuck solid
I done the 1850 pump today, I welded a length of rod to the LH thread bolt and a weight to act as a slide hammer, popped out quiet easily after lots of other failed attempts
Now how do I get the brass cage out?

The 'strips' need to be quite robust!!
Re: Waterpump stuck solid
Cheers Mart and Alun I did think it would be something along those lines.

I used AutoCAD. It was only a quick lashup. I can do a nice 3D drawing in Fusion 360 if you like.

Clever
. I was hoping non cad types like me could do it on just a pc with no hassle.(cad screens are too involved for me lol)

Re: Waterpump stuck solid
On my 1850 getting the brass cage out was harder than removing the pump!. I made up a tool similar to the one in the drawing and Alun is dead right, the strips need to be strong. I used some thickish steel strips but they still bent before the damn thing finally gave up and came out. Its only held in with two rubber rings so it seems unfeasible that it could be stuck so tightly.

Re: Waterpump stuck solid
well that was easy once the extraction tool was made it slid out in a few seconds.

slide hammer made using a weight off another slide and the LH bolt welded on threaded bar.
Cage extractor is a long bolt with a cut down piece of scrap metal I had and a cut down Austin bumper iron.

I don't want to detract from Mart's absolutely excellent CAD drawing, but if you just want an electronic format mecchy drawing to give to a supplier it is possible to do the same thing with just Powerpoint running under XP.
Naturally it doesn't have all the clever CAD stuff behind the drawing that manufacturer's can use. It is just a picture. Here it is exported as a .jpg
