I've been helping a colleague with an early Sprint cylinder head job and I've just noticed what look like timing chain witness marks on the inside of the timing chain case that runs through the front of the cylinder head.
Is this normal ?
I do remember that when we bolted the camshaft sprocket to the support bracket the chain wasn't really as tight as I remember mine as it ran round the sprocket.

No, at least my head does have anything similar and I can't imagine you'd design it this way. My original timing cover had a similar problem, with marks were the chain cut through. Certainly caused by the chain, whether its the current one or a previous one is unknown I suppose.
