Beam me up !!

#1 Post by RichardHyde »

Doing some re-wiring and need to check I’ve got it right.

When I pull the ‘horn’ stalk towards me the ‘beam’ comes on correctly eg flashing the lights.

Are there any pre-conditions to get the ‘beam’ on when pushing the ‘horn’ stalk forwards eg lights constantly on ? Main or side lights on ? Ignition on ?

Thanks, Richard

Bad contacts are a common problem with these combination switches, arising partly from the design and the oxidation of the crimped & rivited connections.

I suffered one MOT failure, because the dip switch failed during the MOT inspection, having been okay in the days, weeks & months leading up to the event!

Ideally, the crimped wires should have been lightly soldered where the bare-wire crimping was done, then strain-relieved and sealed using hot-melt glue & heat-shrink sleeving.
