1200 grade wet n dry used wet. Give it a week or two to harden through in case it tears. Then use a rubber backed flatting block and carefully flat the drips off. Quick T-cut or farecla G3, polish and it will disappear...<br>

Its best to time the cam accurately and a vernier pulley will accomplish this at a price. Best to check that TDC is accurate with a dial guage too if you are going this far.<br>

Later GT6's had 5.5J wheels, which do fit a Spit okay.<br>

I find these old rev counters sometimes need a tap on the glass to get them to wake up, especially after a long period of lack of use.<br>

Make sure....
the rubber fuel pipe support bracket grommet is in good condition. Its at the back of the head and sometimes is left out allowing direct contact twixt pipe and bracket.<br>
Other than that its just a matter or careful routing.<br>

Diagnosis...
With the SU's the jets, needles and discs are relatively cheap to replace. If these are the later type return spring, which most 1500's seem to have, I'd say thet the spindles arent so likely to be worn. Heat shield is also very important n the ohv cars. Even unknown second hand ones make good money ...

Static timing without a light isnt that accurate. There is always a bit of slop, stick and backlash in the distributor drive and advance mechanisms, be they vaccum and centrifugal or combination. Best to set the timing with a strobe light at 800 rpm and then check that both vacuum and centrifigal ...
