im 99% sure youve lost the insulation block between the points sprung contact and the seat, not sure if you know what i mean, the points should not be earthing through the seating of the sprung arm, the insulating block is a small black block with a lug that sits in the oposite seating area ...

A 1500 hl is ok for the reshell but still the same wiring probs as the 1300 go for a 1850.

orange peel
i agree with jon, but orange peel effect can also be caused by the pressure comming out of the gun. i wouldnt suggest adding too much thinners, better to turn the temp down slightly. cant remember if its low or high pressure thats the problem but i seem to remember it being too lower pressure.
