Re: So much for moderns

Hey Jonners,

Count your blessings that you didn't buy a similar aged passat. If you had along with what your doing you'd also be replacing the electric calipers and having to get it recoded/cleared afterwards!! (They need this after a simple pad change if you haven't would them back in via the ...

Re: Handbrake warning light?

Hi Richard,

are your cars HLs?

I've only had one tandem brake car and this was an 81 1500 (nonHL).
It had sundym glass and o/drive but no handbrake light. The brake warning light was the same as the fasten belts light but was inbetween the speedo and the combined fuel/temp gauge. I did have the ...

Re: Handbrake warning light?

Hi,
your car is probably a late dual circuit brakes car, the brake indicator is for a brake circuit failure, not the handbrake.
Only the curved dash cars have a handbrake light.....

Re: A diesel Dolomite..........

The latest 1.6TDI is pretty much just smaller 2.0. It repalces the 1.9 105 and has the same torque peak figure. It's a 16v unlike the 8v 1.9. In real world terms it's a fine car for town work and is surprisingly nippy if not outright pokey and there's nothing over 3krpm, but that's no real harm. The ...

Re: A diesel Dolomite..........

Has anybody considered the BMW 318tds engine and box?

They're apparantly a 4cyl version of the six used in the 325/525tds,omega and P38 Range Rover.

Indirect injection, 1665cc, 90hp and the right way around but supposed to be fairly gutless in an E36.

I'm sure a BM E36 is significantly heavier ...

Re: Dolomite sumps

I always thought that the 1500 spit had the sump bowl in a different spot to the dollys.
Looking at Rimmers page the late spit has an angled oil pump pickup (GLP118) and the dolly and early spit have a straight pickup (GLP145)? The sumps are also different numbers......

As for 2dollys this may suit ...

Re: Limited Slip Differential Options?

Hi Knightrider,

Have a look around for a Corolla GT coupe rear axle (AE86).

These have a factory LSD, disk brakes and if you fancy some more fabrication, are 5-link located.
The final drive ratio is 4.3:1 (I think?).
The rear track is 1345mm, with the sprint being 1360mm, it should be more a less ...

Re: 1500HL gearbox rebuild

Hi PJB,

I've got a good 1500 g/box (non o/d), it had about 40k on it when it was removed. I'm just outside Dundalk if you fancy a spin.

Bear in mind that all the OHVs use the same single rail box (including spitfires and late toledos), so you may be able to turn up something nearer to where you ...

Hi Garfin,

count me in, no mobile dolly yet, but I've just come in from tidying the shed!

Too cold over Christmas, one step at a time!

Re: Redtop sprint

Hi Ian,

it might be worth trying the g/box crossmember backwards to move it closer to the getrag mounting, when fitted backwards the crossmember moves a bit....... dont ask how I know!!

Re: Speedo advice

Sprints use the screw on type with 140mph dial, similar to the T2500 but they have the voltage regulator on the back.
All other smaller engine dollies have the bayonet type (although I've never had an 1850 so don't know about these).

If you want less than 140mph maybe a T2000 would do??

Hi Gary,

I'm just outside Dundalk, on the Louth/Monaghan border.

No real progress likely this week, DIY commitments!!

Re: CZY677 1977 1500HL/Sprint

Thanks for the comments,

the wheels are Compomotive MO, they were on another sprint that I got a few years back.
They're 7x15's and rub everywhere! Might be better with a 185/55 as opposed to the 195/50 tyre fitted at the mo but I think they'd be a tight fit too. Ideally I'd love a set of 6x14 5 ...
