Re: Warning - Dolomite 1300 not as it seems

Storm in a teacup, surely. "Showing 32,948 on the clock" clearly implied that that may not be the correct mileage. There was really no need to spell it out.

And I certainly agree that mileage is at least less relevant on older cars. I would say "there is a world of difference in a car that has ...

Re: Sprint propshaft centre bearing brackets.

Look at the attachment which Galileo links to in the last post on this thread - http://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=32872 .

There is an interesting section on how the propshaft bracket is mounted. The Sprint set up is probably not what you would expect.

Re: dodgy clutch master cylinder

On the slave, are the threads for the feed and the nipple the same? If so you could "just" swap them over without going near the clevis.

Re: Propshaft Mounting Brackets

Clutching at straws here but the single hole bracket would allow a degree of adjustment of the bracket on that side, which the twin bolt set up would not on the other side. Still doesn't explain why they could not find some way of fixing the plate to the floor, other than the cost saving excuse ...

Re: front inner arch

No, you are viewing it correctly. That is the turret opening top left, but the rot is in the turret cavity, just above the chassis rail, and where accumulated road grit etc has been sitting on top of the rail. It seemed to me to be an "interesting" design and indeed I was wondering if I was missing ...

it looks like there is a small gap at the back and front of the arch, which ill put some fiber glass to fill the gap

Dave
I wouldn't be in any hurry to fill those gaps. Good airflow in that cavity will help keep it clean and dry.

Re: front inner arch

On the subject of the strut turrets, I can't recall EVER having found one that's gone rusty, or EVER finding one full of mud and cr*p! Even on the white 1500 i've just broken which has one of the most appallingly rotten and badly bodged shells i've ever seen, the strut towers are fine (about the ...

Heater fan resistor

Is there a more elegant alternative for the heater fan resistor?

I assume it is there to give two fan speeds, but it seems like a bit of an afterthought. At the very least, is there any reason why it cannot be hidden behind the dashboard or bulkhead?

Re: front inner arch

On moderns they tend to be sealed (ish), so that any mud which gets behind the shield will stay there. But a retro fit like this will be very difficult to seal and I expect there will be openings front and rear. The shield will still be very worthwhile to stop all of the crud of the day being thrown ...

Re: Fitting rear axle wheel bearings

hi, locktight is used as a fail safe on half shafts, just in case there is any wear on the shaft.
so only use it on the inner race. if the bearing came off the shaft both you and the wheel/shaft would dissapear into the scenery
cheers,
tony.

The wheel and shaft will not come off the car ...

I took mine out the top. I followed advice from on here that it helped to get the rear of the car up as high as possible.

And this load leveller was the best 20 quid I had spent for a long time -http://www.sgs-engineering.com/garage-e ... d-leveller.

Re: Can't solve my 1500HL problem

Thanks Jonners.

So with 3 standard/hardy spicer type/cruciform UJ's, Alan's propshaft is out of phase.

But if it was a Sprint, with a CV type central joint, in would be in phase, as Tony suggested?

Re: Can't solve my 1500HL problem

Yes all non Sprints have a hardy spicer type joint around the centre bearing area.

Jonners

Not sure what you mean by a hardy spicer type joint. They seem to make all sorts. I think a key point may be whether or not it is a constant velocity type. CV joints obviously are, but standard UJ's are ...
