Sprint half shafts and hubs
So I had a rear axe rebuilt for my fast road Sprint with a gripper LSD in. The diff is a wonderful thing. It has asymmetric ramp angles and multiple plates, but not much preload so it is really very controllable. It’s so much better than the unit in my M3 and makes the car so controllably playful ...

Re: Talk to me about gearbox conversions…
I have a wide ratio box with an unrated overdrive ready to go in mine once I get round to finishing the engine to go with it. I’m hoping that this will give a nice spread of ratios between a standard 1st and fourth and OD fourth will stay as a cruise gear for long road trips.

Fairly sure I saw this going the other way to me on the A720 Edinburgh bypass the other day too. Would have been heading North from the A68.

Sprintparts
Does anybody know what happened to Mark and Phillip who used to run Sprintparts in Australia?
I’m going to Australia next month and I was wondering whether I could take advantage of a lack of delivery charge to get a few bits for my engine build while I am there. I think they still trade on eBay as ...

Re: LED headlight bulbs?
I'm with Bruce on this one.
HIDs are the same. The filament in the bulb is longitudinal instead of transverse, so a proportion of the light source is either too close to the reflector or too close to the lens and so out of focus. The lens then scatters that proportion of light. They will make a ...

Re: Sprint which clutch?
Some mid 90s VWs have a twin choke TB like that Steve. I had a PoloGT with one. That was a cracking fun little car.
I do love the sound of ITBs though. My M3 manages to be quite tractable with them on. I'm building an engine closer to race spec than fast road to run them on and hoping for somewhere ...

Re: Sprint which clutch?
The weber manifold I have is the one with the injector bosses cast into the runners Steve. I could get it machined to take the injectors there and blank the bosses in the throttle bodies. Is that likely to make any real difference?

Re: Sprint which clutch?
I like the Getrag box in my M3. It is all ally cased and has a nice close ratio 5 speed with overdrive 6th. I expect significantly lighter than a Sprint box. It has an integral ally bell housing though so I expect wouldn't anywhere near fit.

Re: Sprint which clutch?
Would you need a bit of shaft sticking out the top and a circlip to stop the shaft dropping down the oil pump drive into the engine and the gears coming out of mesh Steve?
I had the mad idea of trying to fit a pair of roller bearings to the shaft to improve location and reduce friction too. I guess ...

Re: Sprint which clutch?
I am planning on going full EFI on XYK Steve.
I have been thinking about this. I was wondering about using an 1850 dizzy to chop about hough as the Sprint ones seem to be getting rarer these days. I wasn't quite sure that some oil wouldn't escape up the shaft though?

Your car was going very well every time I saw it Clive.
I was in the Saphire one of the trio of Coventry Sprints.
Awesome event.
Really enjoyed it.
I had some pretty nasty noises from my new LSD, but am told by the manufacturer that I've put the wrong oil in. I also managed to warp a new ...

Re: Changing from 3/8 to 7/16 wheel studs
If you are going to fit steel nuts then I would stick with the 3/8 studs.
The only Dolly stud I have ever snapped was a 7/16 one.
There aren't any new ones available that are a direct fit, so it would be a second hand unknown set that you would likely fit.
I think either can have manufacturing ...

How can I measure castor angle?
I have bought some of the adjustable tie rods that Rob makes at Sprintspeed.
They look lovely, but I would like them to improve things rather than be detriment to the cars handling when I fit them.
At the moment I have lowered the car, but it is otherwise standard.

Re: How bad is my Sprint?
That sounds like normal input shaft noise to me as well.
Both mine sound like that from underneath with the engine running.
Sprint boxes make a right row in my experience.
That's one of the reasons why the repro box mounts are so diabolical.
