Re: Hermatite Red
Have you used Threebond .I used regulary on 2 stroke engines good stuff.
I found the silicone ones tend to spue out and nothing left behind on the gasket.
Paul
That's the whole point, what you don't need spills out and you only use what's needed to make a seal and wipe the rest off. Of course ...

Re: Hermatite Red
I remember red Hermetite and not fondly either! If I had a pound for every hour I spent scraping the wretched stuff off some mating surface or other once it had set rock hard, I could have retired at 30! I'm GLAD it's not available any more!

Re: Sprint exhaust stainless or mild steel
My experiences of fitting a sports exhaust (several times) is the frustration of getting it to fit in the first place and then having to adjust the fit several times thereafter to stop it hitting the floor pan/axle/prop shaft as the back of the car rises and falls with everyday driving. Probably ...

Re: Sprint exhaust stainless or mild steel
Thanks for the replies
Is there anyone who has the sports exhaust from rimmer brothers fitted and if so, how long have you had it and is it very load or booming sound on motorways / faster roads. I have read about some members with the straight throw more free flowing exhaust system and was ...

Re: Fuse Box
My Sprint currently has 26 fuses and 12 relays plumbed into it and is done to modern standards, mostly 1 or max 2 circuits per fuse.
But to achieve this I had to completely dismantle and rebuild the loom and used most of another entire loom to have enough wire! My bulkhead mounted box now has 16 ...

Re: Noises from engine after 12 year lay up
For reliability I switched the fan on my Spitfire to the earlier fixed and deleted the vc years ago. Trouble free cooling!
A most sensible idea. Same can be done on a dolly I expect?
I have been thinking, and I reckon a manual fan saps naff all power when on the move, as the speed of the air ...

Re: Noises from engine after 12 year lay up
Probably the fan catching the alternator
I think it might have been. Felt it right through the car which was concerning. Will check the blades for any damage.
Anyway, stripped off, I take it I need a puller to get the old VC off the pulley? After putting the tolerance ring on the pulley, is ...

Re: Rubber or Polyurethane?
The other place I would avoid poly bushing is the axle end of the rear radius rods; I've seen too many polybushed cars compromising the threaded ends of the radius rods due to insufficient flexing causing the threaded ends to bend and in worst case scenarios shear the threaded end completely ...

Re: Rubber or Polyurethane?
Poly will stiffen up the suspension and that will, if used judiciously, sharpen up the handling. Especially if used with other mods like shorter stiffer springs and variable rate dampers. But too profligate use will turn the Dolomite into an uncomfortable, noisy, vibrating beast.

A question with at least 500 different answers!
I use a mixture of both types, But even my most track focused cars aren't fully polybushed. The front of front tie bars, rear of rear upper tie bars and bulkhead column bush are the poly versions I consider essential. For a normal roadgoing car, this ...

Re: Fuel Injecting the Sprint
The EFI looks to be coming on nicely Dave, but what on earth is that strut brace doing on a Dolomite? Absolutely un-necessary with unequal wishbones.

Re: Dolomite spare wheel?
It certainly LOOKS like one, though I suspect it will be worse than useless on your car, if it even fits at all (though I know the PCD matches) It kinda depends on what brakes you are using!
I also don't recognise the wheels on your car but the Blue one has MGF 15" wheels so assume those are 14" or ...

Re: Diff Ratio Puzzle
For absolute certainty, whip the diff out of the case, count the teeth and do the sums. This front loader is a lot easier to work with than the Salisbury axle in the Sprint.
Another vague memory from my GT6 days says the 3.27 has a unique 9 tooth pinion which is a good identifier. It was also ...
