Re: Garage door remote failed - is there a workaround possible?

Hi

Funnily enough I'm just about to do exactly the same thing for my mum's door opener. I bought a cheap receiver from ebay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Switch-Remote-Control-Transmitter-Receiving-Module-Garage-Door-Security/114046251776?hash=item1a8dafb300:g:uiwAAOSwZDxeBPLd) I have bench tested it ...

Re: Clutch Shudder = severe car shudder

Did you replace the rear axle tie bar bushes at the same time as the trailing arm bushes? I had a sprint years ago with a judder in reverse and first that was due to the axle moving around on take up as the bushes were shot.

Re: Tuning SU carbs on an 1850

You’ve changed the needles, are you sure the shoulder of the needle is flush with the piston? If they’re set high in the piston it’ll be the effect as having the choke pulled out.

Worth double checking.

Re: No hot water

If I've read it all correctly my guess would be the limit switch on the hot water valve failed or the wiring to it faulty. The switched live to the boiler to tell it to fire is fed via a switch in the valve that is only made when the valve is fully open.

A check with a meter will confirm if there's ...

Trackerjack Brakes

I have just completed the ‘Trackerjack’ brake conversion and having spent some time reviewing threads on the forum, thought I’d just collate some of the good stuff by others and add a list of parts, a sequence and a few photos and notes of my experiences.

Firstly I’d like to say a big thank you to ...

Re: Goodridge Rear Hose Adaptor

I did try the adaptor both ways, but it definitely fits only one way, and it has to be right, as the cones are right. If it were the 'other' way there would be two convex cones together - inside the swivel coupling there is a convex seat. I also tried fitting the 3/8 nut that secures the axle end ...

Re: Goodridge Rear Hose Adaptor

Thinking about it maybe the easiest solution is to retain the existing fittings and simply use another fitting to adapt the metric male to UNF male!

Goodridge Rear Hose Adaptor

Many many moons ago I bought a Goodridge set of hoses for my Sprint. I fitted the fronts, but being lazy I didn't fit the rear one.

I have the hydraulics drained at the moment as I have fitted the Trackerjack front conversion. I'll do a separate post on that, but a million thanks to Jon for his ...

Re: Sump plug.

Not sure what access is like to the sump plug, but if you have a MIG, you could weld a thick washer onto the remains and then weld a nut onto the washer. The heat may help break the seal if it's been tightened too much.

Remember to disconnect the alternator.

I assume the sump plug is steel.

Re: Front hub seal replacement

Yup. You were right the seal came out fairly easily, just worked a screwdriver gradually around, and you were also right that the Witor retaining ring is a fraction too small, so is a loose fit in the hub.

I expanded the ring a bit until it was a reasonable interference fit, hopefully it'll stay ...

Front hub seal replacement

The front felt hub seals on my Sprint need replacing as the old ones have virtually fallen to bits. The wheel bearings themselves are fine. I have replacement seals from Chris Witor, that seem to be the right diameter.

My issue is removing the old seal ring from the hub without risking damaging the ...

Re: Dashboard Speaker Grill rentension

On mine a blue rawlplug (the one bigger than a brown) provided a solution. The plug is a push fit in the dash hole and the speaker grille pin pushes into the centre hole.

Re: getting overdrive back on

Reading this I remembered I have a booklet of Triumph Service Training Notes on this Overdrive. I can't seem to attach a scan so I have copied a relevant section:

"Refitting to Gearbox

Using a screwdriver of suitable length rotate the inner member of the uni-directional clutch in an anti-clockwise ...

You are right that the photos were taken with it jacked up and the wheel off. It is tough to get a good photo with her sitting down, this is the best I could get. DSC03509.jpg

It is certainly better with the wheels on the ground, but the gaiter does still sit fairly tightly against the mount, I ...
