After getting the clutch sorted last weekend, I thought I'd have a look at the apparent high temperature the car is running at, almost 3/4 on the gauge. Now I know us OHC lot always have one eye on the temp. gauge all the time. and we usually believe what it's showing. I wasn't so sure that is was getting that hot so, first thing this morning, I trotted off down to my Bro-in-Law's garage to have a play with his InfraRed Digital Temperature Sensor, making sure I'd got the Sprint up to a good working temperature on the way down. . By the time I'd got to his place, the temp. gauge was reading between 1/2 & 3/4. Using the sensor, I pointed it at all the hot surfaces, head, block, top hose, bottom hose etc. & none of them were showing more than 65 deg. C. I checked & double checked. Nope, not hot at all. So my next port of call is the temp. sender on the thermostat housing. Unfortunately I don't seem to have a spare so I shall have to order one, unless one of you guys out there has a known good spare? :D

That is good news Martin.
I should have a temp sender, but I don't have the necessary fibre washer I'm afraid. I'll check tomorrow evening if nobody
replies before then.

Which clutch did you fit?
OE spec is getting hard to obtain but cheaper alternatives are available (Sprint and T2000 clutches are the same/very similar).
In the T2000 world there are strongly different opinions on these alternatives. (T2500s are
pretty hard on clutches, especially if used for a lot of town driving I suspect.)
On the last 2500 I ran I fitted a T2000 spec Borg and Beck clutch which I believe would have a fairly
short life span (30K miles?). The old plate and cover were fine but the release bearing was very worn.

hi mart, youve done an excelant job as usual!i need to borrow some of your wisdom!ive just got my "heap"on the road, ive had it running fairly well on the std pionts and condenser set up,but i decided to fit an elec.ignition like yours, doddle to fit,but ive hit a snag with the ignition timing, and was wondering if you had the same problem.basically ive run out of adjustment on the distributer, and i reckon the timing is still 10 degrees out.did you have to lift the distributer and move it another tooth round?also what would you set the timing at for a std motor running on superunleaded?your words of wisdom would be greatly appriciated. :D

Ian, I fitted a Borg & Beck clutch.

Tony, I beleive I did turn the dizzy a notch & it's now timed dead on 10 deg. BTDC. Seems to be fine there running on normal unleaded. I would set yours the same to start with & then tweak it as you go.

Hi there

I'm curous to know-did you ever solve your temerature issue-mine is doing the same and wasinterested to see what caused it-I/m worried that it is head gasket but it doesn't have any other symptoms.

Hi Tristan

I have fitted a new sender for the temp. gauge which seems to have cured the problem, although I haven't taken it for a spin since fitting it.
