I am considering uprating the front brakes on my 1980 Sprint at some stage but my mate is building an RV8 Dolly and this will hopefully get the Trackerjack conversion. As I understand it there are a couple of bits of fabrication that are required as well as your brackets. One involves turning down the old disc to work as a clamp washer and the other modifying the new disc. Would it not be possible to have a batch of clamp washers made up rather than have to turn down the old discs? Maybe you or someone has already done this. What parts specialist are available for the Trackerjack conversion and where can I get hold of them? I'm sure I can get source Sierra/Ka callipers and the right vented discs.

Dave
Yes of course several folk have used alloy rings that I have turned up for them and the last complete set did too.
I will PM you Dave.

Read the advert and they are annoying because nowhere do they give full details plus two suppliers are obviously going to war because they have filled 10 pages of adverts for the same bloody thing

Ford calipers have different shape holes in them and these are the correct ones.
Key points are that they have to be for 240 mm vented equiped cars (XR2/3, Orion, P100 pickup and most Sierra's except XR series.

This is an advert for the right ones and note the hole shape and check it against others for sale.

Its worse if you are looking for wheels and tyres as 3 wheel suppliers have managed to fill 30 pages of the same bloody stuff  I wish you could filter out some listers.

Drove Sprint for first time today. She passed MOT with marginal issues. Used to modern crap at moment but have owned MGB GT and Mini before. Ridden many bikes mostly classic but a few .... Point is, Sprint brakes seem crap and will not allow machine to be driven at anything like its potential.

P.S _ MGB was rubbish wouldn't bother with another. Mini was best car I've owned but have a feeling Sprint will take mantle.

Also, I assume (hope) TJ brakes will fit with standard Sprint alloys.

Oh yes indeed that was very important as Sprint wheels still look the best on a Dolly IMHO.
Plus they were considered good enough to race with and they are very light weight.
However these are the limit.

HI John,
Had my TJ conversion fitted a few years now its been a brilliant safety mod, I only use standard pads on a modified sprint, never had brake fade yet, they are great.
Get far less brake dust than on the old ones, never really get that thought. Am I going to be able to stop? OH YES I WILL.

Hi John, Have had my TJ kit on the Carledo for 2 years now and several spirited trackdays as well as fast road use, with no sign of fade, warping or abnormal wear on the discs. I had Goodridge make me some flexis and use standard factors pads.
Before the conversion I took the car to prodrive and 3 quick laps of that rather short circuit was enough to leave me without a pedal even on greenstuff pads, dot 5.1 fluid, goodridge hoses and every other improvement I could make to the standard brakes. Now 8-9 laps of Castle Coombe is no bother to it and stopping distances are at least 30% better too, To say I'm well pleased is an understatement!
Can I please have a pair of the larger (270mm?) Golf discs modified for me as MY Sprint is on 14" Minilite replicas and will accept them comfortably, I already have some calipers and carriers (Puma) and the rest of the kit including a pair of 240 mm discs which will be redundant though I might keep them as spares for the Carledo. Since the Sprint is Auto, has (or will have) a 147bhp 2.2ltr Omega lump and SWMBO may drive it, I want the biggest and best brakes I can get!

Cheers and thanks! Steve

Hi Steve
I am chuffed to bits when folk like their brakes especially when they have been USED.
I vividly remember using them first when I did the Haynes motorsport run back in about 2000, I did a full 12 laps of Castle Combe with no fuss whatever and no sign of wear or fade, previously 2 laps saw the standard brakes failing.

Yes I can do you a set of discs and will PM you as I think you might need the sliders and calipers from an XR4 or Granada to match.

Cheers
Jon
