seems like lots of progress today!

it always does when you can see a big difference....

new front inner panel......purchased from our friends at riimmer brothers!

Image

i hate to think how much MIG wire there is in this shell

Image

shiny

Image

look what i have....

Image

and this (although the bottom one is a pattern panel....which causes issues!)

Image

like this....the front edge is level but there (was) an inch and a half gap between the *lower eyebrow* and the inner front panel. completely the wrong shape!

Image

cut it off.....

Image

Image

weld it back on with an extra flange....

Image

and the other side

Image

exciting stuff!

Image

will hopefully have more big bits attached tomorrow! :D

good evening!

a big panel was welded on today :D. very pleased with progress :)

had to cut this piece off as it really really wasnt going to fit.....the merits of pattern panels...

Image

here it is welded in

Image

chin spoiler fits quite well :)

Image

more plug welding....

Image

these fit really well! although we had to cut the pattern panel into one big piece and FIVE smaller pieces to make it fit

Image

tadaaaaa :)

Image

lastly.....why does the headlight support construction have to be so darn complicated? :P

I would have said do the top headlight support and eyebrow and wing top repairs before doing the front panel...

but what do I know....

Top job....and good to see this area under such total reassembly close to how it might have been done back in the day...

Note from Admin: sadly Jon passed away in February 2018 but his humour and wealth of knowledge will be fondly remembered by all. RIP Jonners.

We had this discussion and we came to the conclusion that its swings and roundabouts so we decided to stick it on and go from there! :)

Just to let all 'lazerus' fans know that he will be back from a protracted Birthday celebration tonight so business will resume as soon as possible.

Lazerus' Mum
It isn't Orange!!!!!!
The other one wasn't Purple either!!!
One of the new ones will probably be green, very green.
Another new one is green too but not as green as the previous one. Still pretty green. No, now it's Blue.
The other new one will be white with stripes. Actually it might not. No, it will be.
BUT, that one is definitely Yellow :=}

I can get back to being a bad influence on Dolomite related things then!
1978 Twilight Purple Dolomite 1850HL The Lolomite.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.

evening loyal followers!

i bring bearing gifts in the form of pictures :)

firstly, we fitted the roll cage.

this involved making some rather nifty feet for the main hoop....

Image

and some gentle tweaking with one of Alans many impressive tools...

Image

front cage feet (under the dash)

Image

plate in the inner wheelarch

Image

then we filled the aerial hole up

Today I have been doing some cardboard engineering!

We have cut the flange off my shell so I needed to know what shape it is.

So I used the front of VA6 as a guide :-D

Nifty as those main hoop feet are, I'm not convinced they're big enough.
Each mounting foot must be attached by at least three bolts, minimum M8 150 grade 8.8, on a steel reinforcement plate at least 3mm thick and of at least 120cm2 area which is welded to the bodyshell (see drawings K13 to K18).
Though the backstay ones (to the rear arches) only need to be 60cm2
