They are definitely steel, I had to do some welded mods on the Carledo to clear the exhaust and alter the gear lever position.

Checked this morning, it is steel, just can't believe how light it is, and even with all the surface rust
not a single hole through.

How about Inca with stonechip underneath? You could make an inspection hatch for easy access to the clutch slave cylinder.

While the tunnel is out might as well put a new speedo cable in, does anyone know how many teeth the pinion drive gear has? and it seems I don't have an angle drive

I just bought a GSD293 from RB for £11, and it fitted perfectly on the OD box. Previous owner had routed the old cable above the crossmember which seems to be too tight an angle, so I've found a clip that goes in the small hole in the end of the crossmember that holds the cable nicely and maintains a smooth radius. Nothing listed on the parts pages for that clip, but it is a very convenient hole and directly in line with the cable.
Current fleet: '75 Sprint, '73 1850, Daihatsu Fourtrak, Honda CG125, Yamaha Fazer 600, Shetland 570 (yes it's a boat!)

Past fleet: Triumph 2000, Lancia Beta Coupe, BL Mini Clubman, Austin Metro, Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 & MK2, Renault 18 D, Rover 216 GSI, Honda Accord (most expensive car purchase, hated, made out of magnetic metal as only car I've ever been crashed into...4 times), BMW 318, Golf GTi MK3 16v x 3

Ebay,

Steve recommend to look at old Ford's, this one is from a Capri.

3 mins in the ultrasonic, and it came out like new.
