Oh dear; I've done a silly. In Dremel-ling off the stuck tailshaft nut on my gearbox I've not been careful enough and I've put the grinding disc through the lower part of the thread.
Now I'm familiar with Helicoils for reclaiming threaded holes in components , but is there a similar process for reclaiming external threads ?
Thanks,
Tony.
Hi Tony, looking at that i would just tidy the threads up with a thread file and just use a new nut.
Unless it looks a lot deeper in real life than on the photo?
Most of the "stress" will be on the splines anyway, if it was me? i would not worry.
Cheers, Tony.
Thanks everyone for your comments. It looks like by the time the drive flange is on with its thick washer, the new nyloc has about 3 threads protuding. So an extra 2 threads worth of a 2nd thick washer should be O.K. and should take the beginning of the nuts start thread to about 1 turn in.
Panic over !
Should be O.K.
Tony.
