Three.

The starter motor heat shield clips to the solenoid body.

There is a bulkhead heat shield pop riveted to the bulkhead where the down pipe passes close.

The automatic also has a heat shield riveted to the transmission tunnel to protect the inhibitor switch from exhaust heat, but that one isn’t particularly effective!

Thanks, doesn't look as big as I expected

It only really protects the solenoid and wiring terminals. Plus it's nearly always missing anyway!

As Steve says it just clips on top of the starter solenoid - circled in red in the picture below:

Dave

You have asked for a photo of the shield which sits on the starter motor.

Here is a photo of a Sprint engine showing that heat shield.

Anybody got distentions? Especially for the Terry clip that holds it on (obviously not so well if they're mostly missing).

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

does anyone have a sketch of the heat shield for the auto box please?

Both my 1850 and sprint could do with one, all I have left are bits held on by the bolts.

thanks
