Gearbox oil
Topic covered before I know BUT isint the internet a great thing. Nearly everything I have read has been derogatory of EP 90 gear oils yet all the manuals recommend it.
Ep 90 is a dirty word amongst Healy owners reckon straight 30 engine oil or Penrite HPR 30-40 .Ep 90 overworks synchro's<br ...

Flywheel/clutch balance
Greetings from NZ
With my 185o box in bits I await a recon kit from over your way.
While I wait it might be opportune to do a bit of tweaking ie lighten and balance the flywheel and balance the clutch.
They tell me that 'English clutches' were always 'notoriously' out of balance.<br ...

Mainshaft woes
I am having fun with 1850 mainshafts at the moment.Gearbox 1 had a broken mainshaft tip and the hardening off the input shaft so its history.
Gearbox 2 was dismantled today and I notice a 'sleeve' over the mainshaft tip and the needle rollers running 'loose' and not caged within the input shaft ...

Dolly Box
My 1850 Dolly box (manual o/d) is complaining, usual story, bearings noisy, Synchro's losing the plot etc.etc.
Is there another box that I can put in rather than recon the original.
Might be a cheaper option.
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers
My overdrive
on the 1850 takes about 8 seconds to engage when you flick the switch BUT comes out of O/d instantly when required.
What could be causing this.
The box is coming out to recon soon so we can hopefully fix the problem then.

rear pillar vinyl
I've got none on my 1850 it was totally removed when the car was painted.
Had an upholsterer look at it last week muttered 'no problem' and gave me a good price to redo.
His only question was 'does the chrome come off easy'
Hi Garth and thanks.
Things are good here by all means leap on a plane but bring a photo of your Sprint because you probably wont see one. An 1850 is probably as good as you will get..
Might chase a Corolla stalk maybe able to modify it.
Aren't they fun these Classic English cars ??<br ...

wiper
thanks Glynn yes we get a bit of rain but not enough unfortunately.
It is a pain having to turn the wipers off and on though.
There is a small kit that i can get and have one running ok on my Herald but the Dolly wiper motor pulls more power and will burn the kit out in a minute.
Intermittant Wiper
Greetings from NZ.
Has anyone ever put an intermittant wiper control on a Dolly.
I can purchase a Lucas product that will do the job but from the price it would need to be "Gold Plated'
Is there something else I can fit, off another car perhaps or dare I say it 'japanese'
I need about 6 or 8
I am in NZ so paying for them and postage etc could be tricky.
Could you email me on robgee@paradise.net.nz and we could perhaps sort something out.
Oops
thanks for the reply.
It is a 3rail box.
It will be taken out and overhauled later this year. I can live with it for a few more months.
Poor ole Dolly boxes.
Have had bad luck with them once the miles get up.
Same old story eh!
' Bearings and Synchros'.
1850 box
wont go into gear when changing 3rd to 2nd.
Doesnt happen all the time but fails quite regularly.
Is this caused by worn synchro's, which are on the way out as it wont go into 1st on the run, or is something else causing it.?
Selector shaft bushings are all good.
Cheers
