Hi Pete,
It sounds like you've made some progress.
I only removed the ammeter as an alternator can put out more current than a dynamo and I had access to a free stack of gauges to replace it with. So my 3 instrument cluster now has fuel, temp and an oil pressure gauge.
I simply joined the ammeter ...

Re: Ign light on after switch off?
Hi Pete,
I converted my 1300fwd from Dynamo to Alternator way way back. I removed the ammeter during the conversion, but the wiring should be as below.
You should have a thin brown and yellow wire from the alternator connected to a thin brown and green wire this is the charge light circuit.

1300fwd gearbox overhaul
Hi does anybody know of a gearbox specialist in the north west who could repair the gearbox in my 1300?
At anything above walking pace changing into second gear is a non-starter, which is fine on early morning sunday drives but not so good if the traffic is busier and there are gaps in the traffic ...

Re: 1300 FWD Down Pipe
They are a different diameter. I'm sure I have a standard 1300fwd downpipe hiding somewhere in my garage; if you want it let me know and I'll have a good look for it.

Re: FWD engine/gearbox info required
It's been 3 years or so since I rebuilt my engine but 13 bolts sounds about right - one side of the engine has 6 bolts (I think) the other side has 4 or 5 and the 2 nuts; leaving the remainder of the bolts across the front of the engine behind the starter gear.

IMG_0129resized.jpg [I've gone down this route for my MK3 Spitfire - it has a 1500 engine with a single hif44 carb on a modified 1300fwd inlet manifold - the standard air filter case holds a K&N filter element - with the hif44 you don't need a substack. You definitely cannot use a standard 1500 ...

Re: 1300fwd overheating or not?
I had the opposite problem - the gauge showing about a quarter of the way up, my initial thought was the thermostat stuck open, I checked with a fancy thermometer and the engine temperature was fine. Popped a new sender unit in and the gauge is now back to reading "Normal" - it sounds like you have ...

Re: Triumph 1300 seats
Hi,
Technically yes, but the dolomite has a bigger transmission tunnel than a 1300 so you would have to do some modifications to the squab to fit it around the tunnel

Re: Can anyone help??
if it started and ticks over i would say it's not carb or dizzy related - a thorough check of the exhaust system including manifold would be my starting point
i've had two exhaust manifolds crack on triumph engines, so it might not be as bad as you think...

Re: 1300fwd constantly wants to go left....
thanks for the suggestions, the subframe went back in the same position as when it came off - mainly because the rear bolts were solid in the chassis legs and wouldn't come out... there were no issues at all putting it back on

1300fwd constantly wants to go left....
Hi, when driving my 1300 i have to constantly steer right, it has new suspension bushes throughout, i've had to put quite a few shims behind the fulcrum frames to reduce the negative camber, and have set the tracking with a tracking gauge. I thought at first that i hadn't centred the steering wheel ...

I went with a conventional lip type seal off the rear end of a minibus in my local scrappy rather than the original type stuck to the bootlid, it may not be as per the original but does the job and only cost a couple of quid...
