Electric water pump

How do most people mount a electric water pump / do you have to trim the subframe

You don't "mount" it as such, you just let it hang off the hoses! (it's not at all heavy) I have one so fitted on the drive, i'll take a pic or two tomorrow.

Although compact in size, it is heavy, so a Stewart pump has a mounting flange
for attachment on to a bracket.
Said bracket needs to be attached to the engine block.
You do not have to modify the body or subframe.

(There may be a bracket available off the shelf for a slant four but I haven't looked
because I think it is easy enough to make one (and I have plenty of suitable s/h steel.)

Ok so it depends whose pump you use, the Davis Craig pump is quite happy unsupported!

As Steve said, Davies Craig pump doesn't need any further support than the hoses. Pic below is from my race car (which got driven very hard) and this is the bigger EWP115 model. If you want to see how hard it was driven, search YouTube for 'Dolomite Sprint No 20'.

I need a bit more information than that :D :D am i right in thinking , comes out of water pump cover to heater,round heater and back through thermostat back in radiator to complete the cycle

Im going to try a new set up Ford Essex belt driven pump , i know its been done on the Stag

Im going to try a new set up Ford Essex belt driven pump , i know its been done on the Stag
No it goes the other way, from stat housing, through manifold then to heater and back to water pump housing. If you fit an electric pump, the heater return needs to be tee'd into the bottom hose between the pump and the rad or the heater won't work. You can see this return pipe in the pic of Geoff's race car.

I'll be interested to see how you get on with this Dave.

The person who developed the Stag conversion posts on the Sideways forum,
from pictures he has posted there I concluded that there isn't enough room on a Sprint
to get the pump sufficiently low to work efficiently?


On the heater supply question, I stick by my previous answer of having the feed from the cylinder head.
This gives more heat and an easier plumbing solution for an EFI set up.
