Re: Recommendations for some major body repair

Hello Dave.
This is the welder I used for some areas on my Sprint. He has subsequently done work for other club members and did some roof work recently for Tony Burd. [https://classiccarwelding.co.uk/]

Scott is a very good chap so I am sure would give you an honest appraisal. He is Birmingham ...

Recommendations for some major body repair

Hello all - It's been a long time since I've been in here, mainly because I'm a bit despondent about my poor car.

Way back in the distant past (2004, I think!) I made an ill-advised choice of garage for a substantial piece of bodywork repair, and it's now obvious I'm going to need to get it sorted ...

Drive It Day 2020 - POSTPONED

I was advised by forum member pheaduk that Drive It Day 2020 has been delayed until later in the year for the obvious reasons - here's the statement from the FBHVC:

What sort of electrical connector is this?

I can't figure out what sort of connector this is. The new version of the number plate lamp has bullet connectors on the end of it which won't fit the loom - I could change them easily enough if I knew what they were so I could buy some! Any thoughts?

Re: Door glass removal

Only thing I'd add to that is that I could have done with someone to hold the glass at the point I was removing the regulator - the only thing holding it up is the friction from the seals, and that wasn't enough to stop it dropping.

Re: Folding boot trim?

So after a bit of shonky tool making and balancing the whole lot onto the jaws of a vise which was itself sat end on to the workbench, I managed to press a crease into a bit of scrap board. The results are in the two attachments, and doesn't look all that bad - the crease is a bit thicker than ...

It's at times like this that I remember why it's taken me this long to not restore my car. :D

After spending the weekend reading about folding cardboard I've come across this diagram ...

Folding boot trim?

I've got some nice new boot trims to fit but I'm struggling to work out how to put the required bends into them. I practiced on the old ones that used to be in the car; first by scoring both sides, then just the inside, then no scoring at all, but each time the surface of the board broke.

I've read ...

Re: Sprint air filter pipe bracket hole diameter?

Perfect - thanks all! The relays for the headlamps on my new wiring loom are nestled into the little gap between the front wing and the radiator, so I'm going to try to kill two birds with one stone and make a combination weather shield and bracket for the hoses.

Sprint air filter pipe bracket hole diameter?

Does anyone happen to know what diameter the holes on the air filter pipe bracket that attaches to the radiator are for a Sprint? My guess was 1 3/4" to match the carburettors but I don't have one here to measure.

Another shiny thing to add to the list - I cobbled something together using extra hose and many jubilee clips but it's not pretty.

Brake servo rebuild?

Quite a bit of progress on my car this winter, after conceding defeat and sending it off to someone who had a vague idea of what they were doing. :D

The engine is in and it goes very well, but I'm slightly hampered by not having any brakes. The servo has seized solid, which isn't very clever.

I ...

Re: road springs (standard or inch lower`d)

Lowered looks awesome, but the ride is quite different. A standard height car soaks up a lot of road imperfections. A lowered car...not so much.
